kidspeak

I was reading New York magazine and was humored and slightly disturbed by what some kids have to say about our presidential candidates. But the one below was right on:

'The only way I'd vote for Mccain (if I was 18) was if I was under the imperius curse (for those who are as fond of harry Potter as I). OBAMA RULES!!!!'

southpaws rule!

I read an interesting article in the Guardian today about lefty presidents:

Revealed: The leftist plot to control the White House

Let's just hope the right lefty wins (that is, Obama)!

the beastly month

When I was in college I declared October to be the beastly month. It was a month that I never looked forward to because of all the midterms and papers due. I thought my opinion of October would change since I graduated, but nope, it's still the same. Instead of midterms and papers it's deadlines for work.

I was going through my old notebooks and found one for a senior seminar that I took on James Joyce with John Bishop. (I would recommend any class with him.) Note that the date is written in pen while the rest of my notes are in pencil.

There are days when I wish that I were in school again. It was safe, with less 'real-world' responsibilities. Instead of figuring out how to write and edit books that would actually impact the life of a student, I was figuring out Joyce's stream of consciousness, which was by all means challenging but here's the difference: The only thing I'd screw up is my own grade if I didn't get what he was writing. Now, if I produce subpar work I could potentially screw up another student's grade. O rats!
